Feeling tired of your social media content or think it’s not really hitting the mark? Maybe it’s time to review your content with this 3 step simple plan to help you get more success from your LinkedIn content in 2024.
It’s so easy to keep churning out the same content, particularly when you’re a business owner or marketer who is flatout with multiple projects and under time pressure.
But if we don’t spend the time to review what we have, then how do we know what’s really working or make the necessary changes to what we do to reach our desired audience?
Here I’m sharing a 3 step plan to help you review your existing content and build a plan for the next quarter of the year, all with the aim in mind of helping you achieve more from your social media…
1. Set Your Social Media Goals
Be really clear on what your goals are for your social media presence. For example, do you want to increase your company page audience on LinkedIn for brand awareness purposes? Do you want to grow your personal profile connections for networking purposes and to build collaborations?
Being on any social media network requires time and effort, and anyone in business knows, time costs money! Being really clear on your goals is very important, as you can then design specific activities and content to help you achieve them.
This can also help with the “I’m not sure what to post about” conundrum, which countless clients of mine have told me is a problem they consistently face.
2. Do A Content Audit
Take the time to consider ALL the content you have in your business. You probably have much more than you think! Your content is anything you’ve created online already – your website, sales pages, blogs, testimonials and recommendations, emails, past social media posts, brochures, training materials, ebooks and lead magnets. The list is endless!
For many businesses, there is a whole heap of content already published that can be repurposed. There is absolutely no need to reinvent the wheel all the time (who has the time?)
Take a ruthless look at everything you have. What can you repurpose, update or break down to share on social media? What do you already have that will be helpful to your goals from step 1?
Now you know what your goals are, and what content you have that already exists that you can repurpose, you can move on to step 3..
3. Review Your Social Media Content Performance
Now it’s time to think about what’s been working well for you to date. Are there particular content formats (for example LinkedIn live video or podcasts on particular topics) where you’ve found the content has resonated with your audience by increased engagement or it’s driven leads for your business?
Perhaps it’s the type of content that your customers mention to you? For example, I recently shared a blog about young people using LinkedIn, which prompted a higher education contact to message me mentioning the post as she’d been meaning to get in touch to talk to me about LinkedIn training for sixth formers.
Perhaps you’ve found that behind the scenes content seems to get great engagement because it’s showcasing your business and values really well? For many businesses this type of content can work really well and helps to create great storytelling posts.
Take some time to evaluate your post metrics (reach, impressions and engagement metrics) and work out whether you can do more of the high performing formats ongoing. Begin to scope out and create a plan on what this should look like. What do you need to do, who needs to be involved and when will the content creation happen?
Now Scope Out The Next Three Months
Now take your actions from each of the above steps and scope out a 3 month content plan, aimed at specifically achieving your goals and to deliver improvement on what’s been working well! By doing this you are adopting a strategy for success and should see improvement in your content performance.
